Yoga is Sanskrit for “yoke” and refers to the connection between the mind, body and spirit. Addictions are especially destructive to this very important connection. Because of addictions we may have neglected or abused our physical bodies by using alcohol or drugs, or by neglecting regular medical or dental care, overeating, undereating, or failing to engage in exercise...
Practicing yoga will help you to reconnect with your body. You don’t need to be flexible or strong to practice yoga. It is said that 80-90% of success is showing up. All the good intent in the world without execution will not get you far. So, just show up.
You may not be able to do all of the asanas (poses) in the beginning or to the depth in which they are demonstrated, but you will benefit and improve with practice. There is no destination. Yoga, like recovery, is a journey.
Yoga practice has been described as a moving meditation. The Gurus say that when you can find peace within the asanas, you can find peace within the challenges of daily life. Emphasize connecting with your breath and observing what your body and mind are telling you in each asana (pose). The day will come when you can be connected to your breath and peaceful in many poses. That is the Yoga Zone. The yoga practice teaches us to stay in the present, in line with One Day at A Time.
If you are new to yoga, welcome. I look forward to introducing you to this beautiful practice.
Namasté
I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you that is of Love Light Hope and Peace. For when you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are one.
